Publix BOGO Rules, Weekly Deals and How to Stack Coupons

A Publix BOGO deal is buy one, get one free (BOGO), and Publix runs far more of them than most shoppers realize.

The weekly ad for our Lakeland, Florida test store listed 218 different BOGO items for October 15 to 21, from chicken breasts to dishwasher detergent.

Whether you can buy just one at half price depends on where you live. In Florida, you can’t.

Florida shoppers have to buy two

In Florida, BOGO means exactly what it says. You pay full price for the first item and get the second one free, and a single item rings up at full price. Publix stores in the other states it serves let you take one at half price instead.

Publix says the split is deliberate. “We adopted this approach to align with customer expectations in markets where similar promotions are commonly offered that way,” spokesperson Lindsey Willis told News 6 in September 2026. Publix has handled BOGO this way since it introduced the promotions, she told the USA TODAY Network.

In Florida, only pick up a BOGO item if you’ll use both.

When new BOGO deals start

USA TODAY Network report that new Publix BOGO deals start every Wednesday or Thursday
USA TODAY Network

New deals start every Wednesday or Thursday, depending on your store, and run for a week. Our Lakeland store’s current ad runs from Thursday, October 15 through Wednesday, October 21.

You can plan a day ahead. The USA TODAY Network noted that Publix’s website shows the coming week’s BOGOs the day before they start, and Publix’s weekly ad FAQ says the Club Publix ad email arrives at midnight on Wednesday or Thursday, depending on your store.

In the Publix app, tap Savings, then Weekly Ad, then BOGO to see the whole list, and tap the plus sign next to anything you want on your shopping list. The same ad sets the deli’s weekly sub deal, which works differently, and our guide to the Publix sub of the week tracks it.

More than 200 BOGOs in a single week

Publix promises at least 30 BOGO deals every week in its savings and coupon FAQ. The real count usually runs much higher.

BOGO has also taken over more of the ad. Citing data from the ad tracking firm Catalytics, the trade publication Mass Market Retailers reported that BOGOs made up nearly 40% of Publix circular promotions in 2025, up from 22% in 2022, according to the USA TODAY Network.

Stacking coupons on a BOGO

This is where BOGO gets better. Publix’s coupon policy treats each item in a BOGO as a separate purchase, so each one can carry its own coupons.

Publix coupon policy lines on two coupons per item and BOGO items counting as separate purchases
Publix
  • Each item can take one manufacturer coupon plus either a Publix coupon or a competitor’s coupon, for a maximum of two.
  • A manufacturer’s digital offer can’t be combined with a manufacturer’s paper coupon on the same item.
  • A manufacturer’s own BOGO coupon already covers both items, so a second manufacturer coupon can’t go on top.
  • Publix accepts competitors’ BOGO coupons for identical items, from the list of competitors posted in each store.
  • The limit is eight of the same coupon per day, per household.

Digital coupons make stacking easy. Clip them in the Publix app, then enter your 10-digit phone number at checkout. Some cards in the weekly ad show the matching digital coupon right under the BOGO.

In the October 15 ad, Cheerios were BOGO with a $1.00 General Mills digital coupon on top, and Quilted Northern bathroom tissue and Finish dishwasher detergent each carried a $2.00 digital coupon.

This week’s BOGO picks

These come from the Lakeland, Florida ad that runs October 15 to 21. “Save up to” is Publix’s figure for the most you can save, based on the priciest version in the deal.

BOGO itemSave up to
Publix Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts$5.55 a pound
Quilted Northern Bathroom Tissue$26.49, plus a $2.00 digital coupon
Finish Automatic Dishwasher Detergent$16.79, plus a $2.00 digital coupon
All Laundry Detergent$16.49
Gevalia K-Cup Coffee$15.49
General Mills Cheerios Cereal$9.89, plus a $1.00 digital coupon
Tillamook Ice Cream$8.25
Rao’s Homemade Pasta$3.39

Prices and deals vary by store. The one we’d pass on is Hershey’s Halloween candies, which shows one of the bigger savings in the ad at up to $23.49. In Florida you only save if you take two, and two of the largest bags is a lot of candy for most homes.

Rain checks for sold out BOGOs

If a BOGO item is gone, ask for a rain check. Publix counts a BOGO as one deal on two items, and a single rain check covers up to four deals, or eight items. You have 30 days to use it, rain checks aren’t issued for alcohol, and each household gets one per day for any one item or deal.

If a BOGO rings up wrong

Check your receipt before you leave. Under the Publix Promise on Publix’s policy pages, if an item scans higher than its shelf or advertised price, Publix gives you one of that item free and charges the lower price for the rest. Alcohol and tobacco are excluded.

BOGO isn’t the only way to save on a Publix trip. The deli runs its own weekly discount on a whole sub, and our Publix deli menu and prices page has the regular prices to compare it against.
