Publix Bakery Cakes, Breads and Pies With Prices

Publix bakery guide title card: cakes, breads, pies and prices

The Publix bakery bakes more than a dozen breads from scratch every day and decorates its cakes by hand in each store.

At our Lakeland, Florida test store, decorated cakes start at $23.99 for a round and $29.99 for a quarter sheet.

Most cakes need 24 hours’ notice, and prices vary by store.

Decorated cakes, from rounds to towers

Publix

Every decorated cake starts as a round or a sheet, and you pick the cake flavor, filling and frosting when you order. The decorated round serves about 8 and starts at $23.99. Sheet cakes run from a quarter sheet for 15 to 20 people at $29.99 up to a full sheet for 75 to 80 at $96.99.

From there the designs get bigger. Mini cakes for 4 or 5 start at $15.99, towering tier cakes and the Banner and Balloons sheet at $39.99, the Double Number Cake at $79.99 and stacked celebration cakes at $99.99. Character and seasonal designs rotate through the year.

Two options people often ask about are in the sheet cake builder too. You can make it an ice cream cake, and for a first birthday you can add a smash cake in several colors, so the birthday child gets a small cake of their own.

Which cakes give the most per slice

Divide the starting price by the servings Publix lists and the ranking is clear. Plain cupcakes and big sheets are the cheapest way to feed people, and the showpiece cakes cost the most per guest.

A towering tier cake serves about 8, the same as the $23.99 round, but costs $16 more. You’re paying for height and decoration rather than more cake.

For 15 to 20 people, the quarter sheet at $29.99 is the value pick.

Ordering a decorated cake

Order online through Publix’s cake ordering page or at the bakery counter. Decorated sheet and round cakes are listed with “24 Hours Advance Notice Required,” so the earliest online pickup is the next day.

  1. Choose your store on publix.com so you see its prices.
  2. Pick a design, then choose the size, cake flavor, filling and icing.
  3. Choose a pickup time at least 24 hours out and place the order.

Need one today? Online won’t work, so call your store’s bakery and ask what it can do. And if a party depends on the cake, order several days ahead rather than at the 24-hour mark.

The whole bakery menu by starting price

The online bakery menu is huge. For the Lakeland store it listed 695 items across cakes, cupcakes, dessert platters, pies, breads, tarts and donuts. Here’s where each main part of it starts.

Cupcakes by the dozen and pull apart designs

Publix

A 12-count starts at $11.99, whether it’s buttercream iced, cookies and cream mousse, cream cheese iced or fudge iced. Character designs such as Bluey, Minecraft and Disney Princess start at $14.99.

Pull-apart cupcakes, arranged into a picture, cost more. The Autumn Elegance design is $36.99 for 24, a unicorn is $38.99 for 25 and a dress is $42.99 for 28. That’s about $1.54 a cupcake for the 24-count, against about $1.00 in a plain dozen, so the design adds roughly 50 cents a cupcake.

Bread baked in the store every day

According to Publix’s bakery page, the breads include Tutto Pugliese, shaped by hand, plus Italian Five Grain Bread, a sourdough round, White Mountain Bread, Chicago hard rolls and Cuban bread. Publix says its bakers still use methods its bakeries have used for more than 50 years.

The deli’s sub rolls come out of the same ovens, baked every day in each store’s bakery.

Pies, cookies and fancier cakes

Publix says its pies have won national awards, and they’re inexpensive. Pumpkin and sweet potato pies that serve about 8 are $6.99 each at the Lakeland store, apple and Dutch apple are $7.49, and pecan is $10.99 for 6 to 8.

The Decadent Dessert line covers the showier cakes. Rounds such as Chocolate Ganache Supreme, Chocolate Lovers Delight and Raspberry Elegance are $26.99 and serve about 8. The Cookies and Cream Mousse Cake and a hazelnut layer cake made with Nutella both start at $43.99 for about 15.

Publix describes the Chocolate Ganache Supreme as wrapped in a 22-piece chocolate bow, and its Chantilly Cake as finished with mascarpone cream icing and topped with raspberries, blueberries and strawberries.

For a cheaper centerpiece, a decorated message cookie for about 8 starts at $13.99 and a chocolate chip cookie arrangement for about 10 at $24.99. Publix’s GreenWise bakery items, such as baguettes, brownies and cheesecakes, are made without artificial colors, flavors or preservatives, according to Publix.

Dessert and breakfast platters

Bakery platters start at $12.99 for a cookie platter for about 10, with brownie platters from $20.99, petit fours from $24.99 and the Decadent Sweets Platter of brownie bites, cheesecake, cannoli and chocolate strawberries from $28.99. Publix says you can order them online as late as 24 hours before your event.

Mornings are covered too. An assorted pastry platter starts at $9.99, a mini scone platter at $12.99 for about 10, a GreenWise mini muffin platter at $18.99 for about 18 and a donut bite platter at $22.99 for about 18. The savory platters to go with them are in our Publix catering menu and prices.

The free cookie for kids

Publix bakeries hand children a free cookie, a perk you won’t find advertised on publix.com. Publix paused it in March 2020 and brought it back companywide in May 2021, a spokesperson confirmed to FOX 13 Tampa Bay.

Publix doesn’t publish an age limit, so ask at your bakery counter. The same report gives a sense of scale. Publix’s bakery plant in Lakeland turns out 2,400 cookies a minute and goes through 2 million pounds of flour a week.

Fall designs on the cake page right now

  • Fall Pumpkin Patch Mini Cake, about 5 servings, from $15.99.
  • Pumpkin Halloween Mini Cake, about 4 servings, from $15.99.
  • 8-inch Vanilla Buttercream Fall Celebration Cake, about 8 servings, from $23.99.
  • Caramel Apple Pecan Round Cake, about 8 servings, $26.99.
  • Autumn Elegance Pull Apart Cupcakes, 24 count, from $36.99.

These were the starting prices at the Lakeland store on October 19, 2026. Holiday designs take over as Thanksgiving and Christmas get closer, and our guide to the Publix Thanksgiving dinner lists the pies and cakes you can add to a holiday order.

What we’d order

For a family dinner, the decorated round at $23.99. For an office party or a kids’ party of 15 to 20, the quarter sheet at $29.99.

Pull-apart cupcakes look great in photos and are easy to serve, but a plain dozen feeds the same crowd for less. The bakery keeps the store’s hours, which run 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. at most stores, as our check of Publix hours across 82 stores shows.
