Publix Holiday Hours 2026 and the Three Days Stores Close
Publix holiday hours come down to six dates. Stores close all day on Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter, and they close early on Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
Every other holiday, from Veterans Day to Labor Day, is a regular shopping day at most stores.
Publix posts the early closing times in its stores shortly before each holiday. Until this season’s signs go up, last year’s times are the best guide.
Six dates to plan around
Here they are for the 2026 holiday season and Easter 2027, with last year’s early closing times where they were reported.
Why Publix closes on Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter
It’s a tradition as old as the company. In its newsroom Q&A, Publix says it has closed on these three holidays since its founding, to observe them and to give its associates time with family and friends.
The whole store closes, pharmacy included, so anything you need for the day has to be bought or picked up the day before. That’s Wednesday, November 25 for Thanksgiving, Thursday, December 24 for Christmas and Saturday, March 27, 2027 for Easter.
Last season’s early closing times
Publix doesn’t announce these online ahead of time. This is what stores did last season, as reported at the time.
| Day | Last season | Reported hours |
|---|---|---|
| Christmas Eve | Wed, Dec 24, 2025 | Closed at 7 p.m. |
| New Year’s Eve | Wed, Dec 31, 2025 | 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. |
| New Year’s Day | Thu, Jan 1, 2026 | 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. |
The Christmas Eve time comes from Parade’s December 2025 report, which cited Publix’s website and said every location would close at 7 p.m.
The New Year’s hours come from the USA TODAY Network and applied to Florida stores. Stores in other states may have posted different times.
Treat these as last year’s times until your store posts this season’s hours.

Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s weeks
Thanksgiving week
Stores close on Thursday, November 26, 2026, and reopen for Black Friday on November 27. The day before Thanksgiving isn’t an early closing day, so Wednesday, November 25 should run on normal hours.
That Wednesday is also the last pickup day for holiday meals. Our guide to ordering a Publix Thanksgiving dinner works back from it to the order deadline.
Christmas week
Christmas Eve falls on a Thursday this year, so expect an early close that evening and a full closure on Friday, December 25. Saturday, December 26 isn’t on Publix’s closure or early closing list.
New Year’s week
The pattern repeats a week later. New Year’s Eve is a Thursday and New Year’s Day is a Friday, and stores close early on both, so that’s two short Thursday and Friday stretches in a row.
Is Publix open on Veterans Day and other federal holidays?
Yes. Veterans Day on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Memorial Day, the Fourth of July and Labor Day are all store days. The USA TODAY Network noted that Florida stores open on federal holidays, though some locations may close early.
For Labor Day 2026, Parade reported regular 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. store hours. The same report said the pharmacy was closed that day, without citing Publix.
One date to watch in 2027 is Independence Day. It lands on a Sunday, so the federal holiday moves to Monday, July 5. Neither day is on Publix’s closure or early closing list.
Pharmacy and Publix Liquors on holidays
Both follow the store on the big three. Pharmacies sit inside the stores, and the USA TODAY Network reported that Publix Liquors locations close on Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter too. Publix Liquors in Florida kept its usual 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on last New Year’s Eve, by the same report.
Publix doesn’t post separate pharmacy hours for the early closing days. Pharmacies already close at 6 p.m. on regular Sundays, and our guide to Publix pharmacy hours has the full weekly schedule from 73 pharmacies.
Check your store before the holiday
- Look for the holiday hours sign at your store’s entrance in the week before the holiday.
- Check your store’s page in the Publix store locator for that day’s hours.
- Call the store or pharmacy number on that page if the hours aren’t posted yet.
